Cactus B

The first American assault on the Japanese conquest of the Pacific islands is at Guadalcanal, in the Soloman island chain. Almost cut off from supplies, the American Marines hold out attacks by Japanese infantry, air power, and naval fleets.

Contributing in no small way to this survival is the Cactus Airforce...a rag-tag fleet of different types of American aircraft. Flying numerous sorties each day, the Americans succeed in keeping the Japanese at bay, and help the Marines to hold on by their fingernails to the island.

The Japanese try to destroy the Cactus Airforce, by a combination land, air, and sea bombardment. If they succeed, their planned landings on the other side of the island will go un-opposed. Unknown to them, though, is that the Americans have constructed a second air field, deep in the jungle, and put many of their aircraft there. As the Japanese force begins to land, they are attacked by these survivors, and the landing ships and beaches are decimated.
